Hazardous living

The haze has now reached hazardous levels, I have aircon on in all bedrooms. Haven't left the house since 1pm. This sucks, maybe it's time to leave Singapore, I can't sleep because my eyes are stinging and my throat is burning. Sumatra and the greed for palm oil money has a lot to answer for. I'm seriously craving some fresh air now, the burning smell and haze has been with us since Friday, just nasty.

Early morning toy soldiers

Pippa has gone off for cross country, so Tasha is using the glorious early morning play time to play toy soldiers.

Pregnancy and stuff

How is it that my stomach, once almost a taboo subject, has become public property overnight? Often people's first reaction when they find out I'm pregnant is to stroke or pat my (already expanding) tummy! I guess I'll get used to that over the next few months. It's lovely to be able to eat breakfast on the balcony in the sun again. The hoards of ants are back, any morsel left untended is soon found and turns black with the tiny creatures. Wedding We went to a wonderful wedding at the Conrad Centennial hotel on Thursday evening. Two of our freinds from church got hitched after 13 years of on-off dating. Smoky

This week has been odd; I first noticed the haze last weekend when the morning sun was a lovely red colour. Since then the haze has ceased to be 'lovely' and more of an annoyance. It's like standing next to a really smoky bonfire for a week - and apparently it's set to continue for another few weeks. Evidently there's some slash-and-burn clearing going on in Indonesia and Singapore gets the smoke from there every year or so. This is the first time we've experienced it - and it's not nice. We've even resorted to turning our air-conditioning on...something we've never done in Singapore. It's quite surreal, it's like a smelly mist that won't lift. We've had friends here this week, it's been nice to come home and chill out with friends from the UK.
